Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Avila Alvarez (ranked 3019 p4p, 346 weight class) and Dick Stern (ranked 2998 p4p, 344 weight class). Alvarez kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Barbarian by The Darkness. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 30 - 2, fighting out of London, Avila Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dick Stern!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Joseph Jones and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez tries for a takedown but Stern sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Stern lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Stern misses with a double jab.
A head kick misses from Alvarez.
Stern throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Alvarez stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Alvarez lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Stern closes the distance and clinches.
Alvarez blocking some punches.
Stern gets through Alvarez's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Alvarez can't get the takedown.
Stern is defending well against a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Avila Alvarez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stern gets through Alvarez's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Alvarez is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Stern pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Stern scores with a jab.
Stern moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Stern misses with a looping right.
As Stern tries to get set, Alvarez tries to push him back and clinch up but Stern manages to avoid the attempt.
Stern throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Stern avoids a punch combination nicely.
Alvarez ducks under a wild hook from Stern.
Alvarez fails to land the takedown.
Stern lands with a straight right. Alvarez didn't see that one coming.
Stern throws a looping overhand right but Alvarez ducks down to avoid it.
Alvarez throws a quick counter head kick but Stern was just out of range.
Alvarez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Alvarez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Stern connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Stern throws the left hand but Alvarez avoids the punch easily.
Stern pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Stern slips a jab and a cross from Alvarez.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Alvarez shoots in and bounces Stern off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Alvarez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Stern preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Alvarez throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Stern is on top in guard.


Alvarez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Stern won't allow Alvarez to get back to his feet.
Stern stands and throws Alvarez's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Alvarez is not content to let Stern control the position.
Alvarez is looking to regain half guard here but Stern keeps moving and retains side control.
Alvarez avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Stern.
Alvarez is trying to improve his position.
Alvarez looking for a sweep but Stern has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Alvarez is trying to escape the mount.
Stern can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Alvarez is looking to escape.
Stern controlling from mount.
Alvarez wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Stern misses with a head shot.
Alvarez is desperately trying to improve his position but Stern has a good base and remains in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dick Stern dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Alvarez appears to be looking for a big counter.
Alvarez is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Alvarez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Stern pinned against the cage. Stern gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Alvarez stalks Stern and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Stern's face. Stern staggers backwards, shaken.

and Alvarez counters with a nice uppercut.

Stern has closed the distance and engaged Alvarez in a clinch.
Stern lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Stern creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Alvarez has Stern pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Stern manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Stern makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Stern lands a left hand that snaps the head of Alvarez backwards.
Alvarez blocks a body shot from Stern.
Stern working aggressively here.
Stern can't find room to land a body shot as Alvarez controls the action.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Stern.
A nice left hand lands by Stern.
A head punch on the inside from Stern fails to land.

Stern throws a big uppercut that drops Alvarez! More strikes from Stern and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Alvarez lies dazed against the cage as Stern celebrates with his cornermen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dick Stern!
A relieved looking Dick Stern thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
The defeated Avila Alvarez had this to say: 'I'm so pissed, man. I trained so hard for this camp too.'.
