PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Hawk (ranked 412 p4p, 46 weight class) and Darnell Cane (ranked 1518 p4p, 187 weight class). Hawk kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Deadwood. Thomas Hawk could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Darnell Cane's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 36 - 19 - 1, fighting out of London, Thomas Hawk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Darnell Cane!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Matti Vanhoillinen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cane waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Hawk.
Cane avoids the body shot from Hawk.
Hawk lands a nice shot that snaps Cane's head back.

Hawk moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Cane ducks under a wild hook from Hawk.
Cane throws a hook to the side of Hawk's head but Hawk sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Hawk seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Hawk just misses with a punch to the body.
Hawk throws a lazy right hand but Cane sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Cane feints the counter takedown.
Hawk throws a jab when Cane was well out of range.
Cane throws a shot from downtown. Hawk moves away and avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hawk tries to bum rush Cane with a series of wild strikes but Cane uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Hawk throws a right and a left that Cane avoids nicely.
We've been told by Hawk's head coaches at Scotty's Yard that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cane.
Hawk ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cane moves away.
Cane drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Hawk defends it well.

Hawk connects with a good right hand that stumbles Cane. Cane circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Cane doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Cane moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Hawk moves in looking to clinch but Cane pushes him off.
Cane takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Cane cracks a nice hook into Hawk's ribs.

Hawk throws a hook but Cane blocks it.
Cane feints the counter takedown.
Hawk cracks Cane with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes.
Hawk attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Cane shoots in and drives through. Hawk sprawls well.
Hawk half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Cane uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hawk.

Hawk throws a quick inside leg kick.
A telegraphed right hand from Cane misses the target.
Hawk scores with the left hand. Cane knows he should have avoided that one.

Cane shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hawk is trying to defend but Cane finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cane connects with a nice short shot to Hawk's temple.
Hawk moves into full guard.
Hawk wants to sweep here but Cane controlling him for the moment.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hawk bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cane's guard.

And Cane tries to counter it with a takedown but Hawk pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Hawk paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Hawk throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cane was covering up waiting for the punch and Hawk finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Hawk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cane swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cane pulls Hawk in close to prevent any damage.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hawk wants to control from the top but Cane keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hawk throws a leg kick but Cane moved away.
Hawk darts in looking for a takedown but Cane gets double underhooks and turns Hawk into the ropes.
And Cane tries to counter it with a takedown but Hawk pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Cane throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Hawk takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Hawk ducks under a wild hook from Cane.
Hawk swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Cane misses with a looping left.
Hawk swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Hawk misses with an uppercut.
Cane takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Cane moves out of range as Hawk strikes.
Hawk throws out a powerful jab.
Cane jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Hawk is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cane can do to turn this around?
Cane cracks Hawk with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Cane is looking to chop away at Hawk's legs.

Cane is trying to trip Hawk. He has hold of a leg but Hawk is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Cane persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Cane is nestled in close to Hawk, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Cane might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

I would just about give that final round to Darnell Cane.
