Coming up we have a light heavyweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Joe Bone (ranked 1402 p4p, 187 weight class) and James Steel (ranked 2228 p4p, 0 weight class). Bone comes into the arena with You'll Never Walk Alone blaring out of the sound system. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 3 losses; Joe Bone! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 0 losses; James Steel! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Chris Edwards and Steven Brown.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Bone shoots in for a double leg but Steel sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Steel dives in and grabs Bone's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bone pushes down on Steel's head and hops out. Bone shoots in but Steel avoids the takedown attempt easily. Steel is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Bone shoots in looking for a takedown but Steel manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bone's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Bone. That's going to take a lot out of him. Steel looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. That's one minute gone in the round. Bone tries to land a sweep but no joy. Steel is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Steel wants to control from the top but Bone keeps moving. Steel looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Bone managing to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Steel engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Bone keeping full guard, as Steel tries to pass. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Bone is trying to control the position but Steel postures up. Bone tries to land a sweep but no joy. Bone controls Steel momentarily but Steel frees himself. Bone looking to hit a scissor sweep but Steel is one step ahead there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Steel trying to control the position from guard on top but Bone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Steel preventing the sweep. Bone bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Steel's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Bone (2) vs (2) Steel Our spies down at at Midnight MMA inform us that Steel has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Steel pulls Bone in to control the position. Bone looking to pass the guard. Bone stopping the sweep attempt from Steel.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bone stays in close to Steel's body and controls the position. Bone advances position into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Bone (5) vs (2) Steel Steel is looking for a sweep. Bone taking a break here but Steel is having none of it and regains half guard. Bone wants to pass to mount but Steel is defending the position. Bone seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Steel does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Bone trying to control from Steel's half guard. Steel has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Bone wants to control from the top but Steel keeps moving. Bone is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Steel is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Steel has escaped and now he's on top! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Bone (5) vs (4) Steel Steel pushing down on Bone's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Steel is taking a breather. Bone says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Bone wants to control but Steel is keeping busy.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Steel wants to take a breather but Bone is having none of it. Steel looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Steel is keen to just control but Bone is a slippery customer. Bone is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Steel's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Steel's back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Bone (9) vs (4) Steel Bone has managed to slip his arm under Steel's chin. This could be all over... yep, Steel is tapping out! Submission win for Bone.
