PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eric Ashton (ranked 1223 p4p, 154 weight class) and Michael Scarn (ranked 986 p4p, 126 weight class). Ashton comes to the ring accompanied by Zombie Nation. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Michael Scarn was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 25 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Eric Ashton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Scarn!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ashton misses the shot to the body.
Scarn appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Ashton lands a jab.


It looks like Michael Scarn has been cut.
Scarn throws a series of punches but Ashton moves out of range.
Scarn swings for the body but Ashton moves out of range.
Ashton tries to counter with a takedown but Scarn is quick to defend against it.

Scarn moves into the clinch.
Scarn looks to throw an elbow but misses.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Ashton.
Ashton tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Scarn looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Ashton fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Ashton turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Scarn wants to control but Ashton postures up.

Scarn parries the strikes from Ashton easily there. Ashton is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Scarn to escape.

Ashton is looking to take a break and control but Scarn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Scarn told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Ashton looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Ashton makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Scarn throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ashton.
Scarn with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Ashton throws a looping overhand right but Scarn ducks down to avoid it.
Scarn misses with a straight left.
Ashton bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Ashton looks to land a left hand but Scarn moved out of range nicely.
Scarn lands a right hook to the body.
Some bone on bone action there as Scarn checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Ashton darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ashton wants to control from the top but Scarn keeps moving.

Scarn is trying to keep Ashton in close.
Ashton content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Scarn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've been hearing good reports from Ashton's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Ashton is in close to Scarn's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Ashton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Scarn wants to sweep but no luck.
Ashton wants to pass the guard but Scarn is keeping the position.

Ashton postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Scarn is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ashton, into his guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Eric Ashton will probably get the nod.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Scarn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ashton moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Michael Scarn seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Scarn keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
It seemed like Scarn was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ashton has hold of one of Scarn's legs. Scarn is fighting the takedown attempt but Ashton gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Eric Ashton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Scarn has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Ashton is pushing him up against the ropes, looking to control the position.

Michael Scarn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ashton has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
