PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Crane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fernando Torres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Crane comes to the cage accompanied by The Fall of Troy - F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X.. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Stephen Crane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Fernando Torres!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Torres throws a series of punches but Crane avoids them all with ease.

Crane feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Crane stops Torres from standing up.
Crane passes Torres's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Torres is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Crane scores with a couple of nice shots.
Crane wants to free his trapped foot but Torres is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Crane trying to control the action but Torres is working from the bottom.
Torres is trying to stand.
Crane looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Crane wants to take a breather but Torres is having none of it.
Crane has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Torres is trying to stand back up but Crane is controlling him
Ground and pound from Crane.
Crane working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Crane is trying to work for a kimura but Torres is defending well.

Crane slips a nice elbow through Torres's hands, connecting with Torres's forehead.

Crane is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Torres defends it well.

Crane is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Torres doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Crane.

Torres trying desperately to get to his feet.
Crane landing strikes from the mount and Torres is in trouble!
Torres really wants to buck Crane off and get back to his feet.

The referee warns Torres that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Crane tries to control but Torres wriggling away.
Torres is in a horrible position here. Crane smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
You get the feeling that Torres really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Crane lands a big shot there that rocks Torres but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Torres is trying to stand.
Crane dominating with strikes here.
Crane has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Torres's face.
Torres is in a horrible position here. Crane smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Crane lands a heavy elbow.

Crane has hold of Torres's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Torres manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Crane is breathing heavily.

Torres is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Torres is in a horrible position here. Crane smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Torres really wants to buck Crane off and get back to his feet.
Crane looking to control but Torres is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Torres is trying to stand up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Torres takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Crane lands with some strikes.
Crane wants to control the pace but Torres is squirming around nicely.

Crane is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Torres can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Crane has hold of Torres's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Torres manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Torres gets caught flat footed, as Crane shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Crane wants to control from the top but Torres keeps moving.
Crane stops Torres from standing up.
Stephen Crane overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Crane lands a couple of elbows.
Crane advances position into side control!
Torres wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Crane lands a few punches from side control.
Torres is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Crane has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Crane scores with a couple of short elbows.
Crane in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Crane working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

The strikes coming from Crane are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Crane looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Torres is avoiding damage well.

Torres tries to escape but Crane is in control.
Crane throws an elbow but Torres slips to the side and avoids it well.
Crane tries to move into full mount but can't pass Torres's legs.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Torres wants to get back to his feet but Crane drags him back down.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A punch combination from Torres misses.
Torres tries to clinch up.
Torres lunges at Crane with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Crane's hand.

Crane has Torres up against the cage in a clinch.
Crane looking to throw knees to the head but Torres is blocking nicely.
Torres swings wildly with an uppercut but Crane uses good head movement to avoid it.
Crane jumps guard but Torres stands there with Crane around his waist. Crane gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Crane is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Crane is looking for a triangle here but Torres uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Torres wants to stand but Crane is controlling his arm.
Crane manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Torres wants to get back to his feet.
Crane seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Crane frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Crane is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Torres is surviving well by controlling Crane's body position as best he can.
Torres is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Crane is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Torres is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stephen Crane dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Crane fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Torres, pushing him back against the cage.
Crane takes a knee right on the jaw!
Torres misses with some punches.
Crane tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Torres just stands there and leans against the cage.

Crane manages to break the clinch.
Torres wants to clinch
and Crane counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Torres tries to clinch
and Crane makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Torres throws a one two combo.

Crane shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Crane showed some decent athleticism there.

Crane is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Torres defends it well.
Torres wants to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Crane lands strikes from half guard.
Crane uses his free foot to push down on Torres's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Torres.

Torres tries to buck Crane off so he can stand up but Crane has got his back now - this could be big trouble! He's slapped on a rear naked choke that looks really tight! Torres falls backwards, slamming Crane to the mat but Crane holds on tight! Torres is forced to tap and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Stephen Crane!
