Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lenny Maldonado (ranked 23388 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kris Capers (ranked 4833 p4p, 0 weight class). Kris Capers is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lenny Maldonado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kris Capers!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Capers throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Maldonado moves into the clinch.

Maldonado is fighting off a takedown attempt but Capers is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Maldonado to the mat. Maldonado regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Maldonado will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Maldonado controls Capers momentarily but Capers frees himself.
Maldonado trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Maldonado is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Capers is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maldonado controls Capers momentarily but Capers frees himself.

Maldonado throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Maldonado closes the distance and clinches up with Capers, looking for a takedown. Maldonado pushes Capers against the cage but Capers circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Capers throws a counter combo.
Maldonado shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Capers as he avoids it easily.
Maldonado fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Maldonado looks for a takedown but Capers sprawls well.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Maldonado tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Capers defends well and Maldonado ends up having to push Capers into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Maldonado really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Maldonado controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Capers closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Capers has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Maldonado works to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've been informed that Capers has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Capers darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Capers goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Maldonado is on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Capers utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Maldonado postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Capers wants to control the position but Maldonado says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Capers moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Capers is trying to control the position from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kris Capers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Maldonado has a takedown stuffed.
Capers stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Capers wants it to stay on the feet.

Capers shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Capers was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Capers has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Maldonado's face.

Capers jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Maldonado is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Maldonado and Capers has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Capers wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maldonado keeps working.

Maldonado tries to buck Capers off but Capers is having none of it.
Maldonado knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Capers on the ground.

Capers has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Maldonado is defended easily by Capers.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
