PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Odis Hancock (ranked 24742 p4p, 0 weight class) and Todd Maxon (ranked 4744 p4p, 0 weight class). Maxon is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Everything is Awesome. Todd Maxon will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Odis Hancock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Todd Maxon!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Chad Campbell and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Maxon as Hancock shoots in.
A nice side step and Maxon releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Maxon looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Maxon lands a leg kick that knocks Hancock off balance momentarily.

Maxon pushes Hancock up against the cage in a clinch.

Maxon wants the takedown. Hancock is fighting it off but Maxon persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Hancock's guard against the cage.
Hancock really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Hancock had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Maxon defends it easily.
Maxon pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hancock is keeping the position for now.
Hancock will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Maxon ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Maxon no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Hancock not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Hancock cracks Maxon with a solid left hand.
Hancock is stalling in the full guard.

Hancock trying to control the position from guard on top but Maxon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hancock has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hancock will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Hancock shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hancock showed some decent athleticism there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hancock wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maxon keeps working.

Hancock is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Maxon doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hancock.

That was a close round but I would say that Odis Hancock will probably get the nod.

Hancock bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hancock cracks Maxon with a big right hand but Maxon just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Hancock shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Maxon is trying to defend but Hancock finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Hancock is looking for a kimura but Maxon is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hancock to get the leverage.

Hancock is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Maxon is just riding it out for now. Hancock eventually gives up the hold.

Maxon has hold of Hancock's hands but Hancock slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Hancock looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Hancock is taking a breather. Maxon says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hancock has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Hancock decides to stand and escape the position.

Maxon has Hancock pressed against the cage, preventing Hancock from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Maxon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hancock swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Hancock feints and as Maxon raises his hands in defense, Hancock changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Hancock gets to his feet - Maxon follows without any prompting.
Hancock throws a head kick but Maxon moves out of range.

Hancock fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Maxon to the ground. Hancock is now in Maxon's guard.
Hancock wants to get up but he can't break Maxon's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Maxon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hancock gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Hancock throws a sloppy head kick and Maxon moves out of range easily.
