PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Butch Coolidge (ranked 1959 p4p, 225 weight class) and Bryan Callen (ranked 2738 p4p, 296 weight class). Coolidge comes to the cage accompanied by twenty one pilots - Stressed Out. Callen has chosen Gummo by Tekashi 69 as his entrance music. The key to victory for Butch Coolidge has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Butch Coolidge!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bryan Callen!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Columbo Gatti and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coolidge throws a right hand that misses

and Callen counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Callen stops Coolidge from standing up.
Callen throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Callen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Callen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Coolidge wants to sweep here but Callen controlling him for the moment.
Callen lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Coolidge is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Callen is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Coolidge is trying to keep Callen in close.
Callen lands a couple of decent looking shots.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Coolidge is looking to stand up but Callen isn't so interested in that idea.
Callen passes into half guard.
Coolidge wants to get back to full guard.
Callen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Callen prevents Coolidge from improving his position.
Callen is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Coolidge wants to control but Callen is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Callen thows a huge punch but Coolidge dodges it nicely.
Callen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Coolidge gets back to full guard.
Coolidge is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Coolidge pushes Callen off and scrambles back to his feet.
Coolidge lands a nice shot that snaps Callen's head back.
Coolidge lands with a good body shot.
Butch Coolidge is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Coolidge connects with a looping right hand.
Callen with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Callen misses with a jab to the body
and Coolidge cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Callen shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Coolidge sprawls well. Coolidge wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Callen gets slowly back to his feet.
Callen walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Coolidge throws an overhand right that lands on Callen's shoulder, as Callen tries to avoid the shot.
Callen shoots in for a takedown but Coolidge shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Coolidge misses with an attempted mid kick.
Nice cross by Coolidge.
Callen with a poor takedown
and Callen takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Butch Coolidge has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bryan Callen.
Callen moves away from the strike by Coolidge.
Callen keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Coolidge.
Callen looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A little feinted left hand from Coolidge on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Coolidge getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Coolidge throws the left hand but Callen avoids the punch easily.
Callen drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Coolidge defends it well.
Callen gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Coolidge jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Callen shoots in but no luck this time.
Coolidge was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Callen looks winded!
Coolidge is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Callen.
A punch lands to the side of Callen 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Coolidge scores with the left hand. Callen knows he should have avoided that one.
Coolidge lunges at Callen with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Callen's hand.


Callen is rocked!
Callen takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Callen is still on wobbly legs! Can Coolidge finish him?
Coolidge cracks Callen with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Callen tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Coolidge pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Callen is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Butch Coolidge!
Butch Coolidge retains his welterweight title!
Butch Coolidge seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
The defeated Bryan Callen had this to say: 'This sucks, but I'm just gonna get some blow and hang out with my Albanian friends. Thank you New York!!'.
