Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Piet Smit (ranked 1210 p4p, 192 weight class) and Kazushi Sakuraba (ranked 2354 p4p, 331 weight class). Smit kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Baby Got Back. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Piet Smit! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kazushi Sakuraba! The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Peter Branson and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smit rushes Sakuraba and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Sakuraba misses with some punches.
Sakuraba jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Smit walks away with a smile on his face. Sakuraba gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Smit gets a clinch. A short left from Smit. Smit works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Sakuraba is looking for a triangle but Smit pushes his legs off easily.
Smit has gone for a leg lock! Sakuraba slips out almost immediately though and dives into Smit's guard.
Smit looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Smit throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Sakuraba escapes and throws Smit's legs to the side, diving into side control! This has been an exciting period of action! Smit gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

My spies in Temp Spar Gym inform me that Sakuraba has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Sakuraba looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Smit is looking to reverse the position. That was a close round but I would say that Piet Smit will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Sakuraba defends it nicely. Smit is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sakuraba. Smit throws a shot from downtown. Sakuraba moves away and avoids it. Smit tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Sakuraba counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Sakuraba. Sakuraba rolls with it to try and escape but Smit cranks on the arm and Sakuraba is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
