Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Watsz Mawe (ranked 2803 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aslan Ramesha (ranked 3884 p4p, 0 weight class). Watsz Mawe has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Watsz Mawe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aslan Ramesha!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Alyssa Summers and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ramesha slips a jab and a cross from Mawe.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Ramesha has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Mawe stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mawe wants it to stay on the feet.
Ramesha fails with the takedown
and Mawe counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Mawe slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Ramesha takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Aslan Ramesha seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mawe closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Mawe tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Mawe wants to control but Ramesha is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mawe tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Mawe trying to control the position but Ramesha is working away.
Mawe scores with a couple of short elbows.
Ramesha is trying to improve his position.
Mawe fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Ramesha takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Mawe tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Mawe is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ramesha is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ramesha tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mawe wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Mawe wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ramesha, who protects the arm well.

Mawe remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ramesha takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Mawe has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Ramesha seems a little lost for a moment, as Mawe dominates the positioning.

Ramesha is rocked!
Mawe lands a strong strike to the head of Ramesha. That's dazed him! Mawe looking to finish here. Ramesha is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Mawe lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Watsz Mawe!
After the fight, Watsz Mawe was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
