Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joe Stevens (ranked 6457 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seymour Hughes (ranked 5647 p4p, 483 weight class). Stevens comes to the cage accompanied by Woke Up This Morning. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Stevens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Seymour Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Illya Tyunina and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevens closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.


It looks like Joe Stevens has been cut.
Stevens shoots and misses
enabling Hughes to counter with a crisp jab.
Stevens with a poor takedown
and Hughes connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Hughes leaves Stevens with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Stevens. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hughes looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
A jab from Hughes finds it's way through Stevens's defenses.
Hughes should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stevens shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Stevens was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hughes is trying to control Stevens's posture but Stevens avoids it.
Hughes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stevens. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Stevens is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hughes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hughes wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Stevens goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Hughes has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Stevens but great work by Hughes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stevens is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Stevens wants to get back to his feet.
Stevens is looking for a sweep. Hughes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Stevens is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hughes pulls his head out easily.

Hughes seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Hughes prevents Stevens from improving his position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Stevens takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Stevens misses with a takedown
and Hughes counters with a nice uppercut.
Stevens goes for a double leg but Hughes avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hughes continues to drive forward.
Stevens is breathing heavily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Stevens.
Stevens shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hughes as he jumps to the side.
Stevens darts in looking for a takedown but Hughes gets double underhooks and turns Stevens into the cage.

Hughes lands a big uppercut and Stevens crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Stevens looks OK. Hughes waves Stevens back to his feet!


Stevens is rocked!
Hughes throws an uppercut from hell that sends Stevens clean off his feet! He's out cold! Hughes stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Seymour Hughes!
