PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Pave (ranked 5171 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yhorm Cinder (ranked 5281 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dave Pave!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Yhorm Cinder!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pave shoots for a takedown but Cinder saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Cinder throws a low kick, looking for Pave's leg but Pave calmly moves out of range.

Cinder clinches with his opponent.
Cinder misses with some punches.
Pave gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Cinder.
Cinder wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Pave has him pressed against the cage.

Pave breaks from the clinch.

Pave looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Cinder has a closed guard, preventing Pave from standing up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cinder managing to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Let's hope that Cinder has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cinder's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Cinder is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Cinder wants to stand but Pave is controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A cross from Pave lands.


It looks like Yhorm Cinder has been cut.
Pave tries to clinch up.
Cinder avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cinder ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Pave moves away.
Pave is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Cinder.
Pave fails with a takedown attempt.

Cinder looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Pave!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pave tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Cinder easily slips into full mount!
Cinder landing strikes from the mount.
Cinder postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Pave looks a forlorn figure.

Pave is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Pave is looking to get to half guard.
Cinder lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Cinder cracks Pave with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee warns Pave that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Pave is breathing heavily.
Cinder with shots to the head and body - Pave looks very uncomfortable down there.

Cinder swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Pave is now in Cinder's guard. A big mistake from Cinder there, giving up the dominant position!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pave accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

More stalling from Cinder.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cinder has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Pave is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yhorm Cinder dominated that round.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Pave goes for a takedown attempt but Cinder pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Cinder manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Pave on his heels. He'll look to pass Pave's guard now, I'm sure.
Pave is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Cinder dives into side control.
Pave might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Cinder is chipping away with strikes.

You can see the frustration on Pave's face as Cinder controls the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cinder decides to stand back up.

Cinder clinches.

Cinder gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Yhorm Cinder has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pave is trying to control but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cinder working the head and body with strikes.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cinder not doing much here.
Cinder working over Pave with some ground and pound. Pave looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Cinder looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Pave with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Cinder perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Cinder tries to pass to full mount but Pave defends it.
Cinder looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Pave is trying to maintain the position but Cinder is very close to passing his half guard.
Pave has hold of Cinder's hands but Cinder slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Cinder seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Cinder in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Pave tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Cinder!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Yhorm Cinder!
