Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Kane Thompson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alfred Blackman! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Chris Dean and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thompson misses with a looping right. Blackman is trying hard to land a takedown here. Thompson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Blackman tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Thompson defends well and Blackman ends up having to push Thompson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Blackman shoots and misses and Thompson counters with a stiff right hand. Kane Thompson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alfred Blackman. Blackman tries for a takedown but Thompson circles away easily enabling Thompson to counter with a crisp jab. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Thompson ducks under a wild hook from Blackman. Thompson throwing a counter right hand but Blackman manages to avoid it. Blackman uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Thompson. And Blackman tries to counter it with a takedown but Thompson pushes his down on his head and steps out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thompson throws a shot from downtown. Blackman moves away and avoids it. Blackman changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Blackman shoots for a double leg takedown but Thompson sprawls well. He's pushed Blackman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Thompson closes the distance and clinches. Thompson digs a right hand underneath Blackman's ribcage. Blackman let out a lung full of air as it connected. Thompson is defending well against a takedown attempt. Blackman has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Thompson uses from the top position. Blackman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Thompson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Blackman is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Thompson is aware though and is defending well. Thompson wanted to stand there but Blackman had control of the position. Thompson wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Blackman's closed guard. He's half up but Blackman has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Blackman pivots and extends the arm, Thompson falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Blackman! Well done that man!
