PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Royler Gracie (ranked 1933 p4p, 228 weight class) and Nevzorov Stepanovich (ranked 2310 p4p, 260 weight class). Gracie kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Olha a Explosão. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Royler Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nevzorov Stepanovich!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Sandra Marshall and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stepanovich throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gracie sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Gracie ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Stepanovich moves away.
Gracie misses with a wild body shot.

Stepanovich drives through with a takedown into guard.
Stepanovich trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gracie isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Stepanovich stacks Gracie on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Stepanovich!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Stepanovich is keen to just control but Gracie is a slippery customer.

Gracie has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Stepanovich is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gracie sees it coming and defends easily.
Stepanovich is just content to waste time from the top position. Gracie takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Stepanovich has his foot on Gracie's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gracie works his way back into a safe position though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Gracie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Nevzorov Stepanovich showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Stepanovich looks to land a left hand but Gracie moved out of range nicely.
Gracie darts in looking for a takedown but Stepanovich gets double underhooks and turns Gracie into the cage.
And Stepanovich tries to counter it with a takedown but Gracie pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Gracie uses his free foot to push down on Stepanovich's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Stepanovich.

Gracie has hold of Stepanovich's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Stepanovich manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Gracie avoids the attempt from Stepanovich to control.
Royler Gracie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Gracie jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Stepanovich manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Stepanovich bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Gracie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Stepanovich doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Stepanovich manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Nevzorov Stepanovich is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stepanovich seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Royler Gracie showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Stepanovich has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Nevzorov Stepanovich was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
