Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Keijo Maki! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leonid Martinyuk! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maki looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Martinyuk tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Maki manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Maki misses with a body kick. Maki connects with an inside leg kick. Martinyuk walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Maki lands a jab to Martinyuk's midsection. Martinyuk checks a leg kick nicely. Maki bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Maki cracks the inside of Martinyuk's front leg. Maki throws an overhand right that lands on Martinyuk's shoulder, as Martinyuk tries to avoid the shot. Martinyuk unleashes a big counter combination but Maki bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Maki moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Maki paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Martinyuk throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's one minute gone in the round. Martinyuk avoids a kick to the body.
Martinyuk tries to counter with a clinch but Maki shakes him off and moves away. Martinyuk blocks a leg kick. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Martinyuk! But no joy. Maki throws a chopping leg kick but Martinyuk manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Martinyuk is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Maki tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Martinyuk pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Maki throws out a loose jab but Martinyuk uses good head movement to avoid it. Maki lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Martinyuk checks a leg kick. Martinyuk steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect. A left lands for Martinyuk. Maki connects with a body shot. Martinyuk scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Maki doesn't seem bothered though. Maki scores with a nice body kick.
A swing and a miss from Maki.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nice body kick there by Maki. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Maki cracks Martinyuk with a right hand to the side of the head. Keijo Maki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Maki swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Martinyuk. Martinyuk walks into a straight right hand from Maki. Martinyuk throws a lazy uppercut
and Maki counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Martinyuk checks a leg kick nicely. Maki tries to work over Martinyuk's front leg with a kick but Martinyuk checks it. Maki lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Maki looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Maki lands with a hook. Martinyuk tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Martinyuk is rocked! Maki thuds a left hand into Martinyuk's body. Martinyuk is still on wobbly legs! Can Maki finish him? Maki is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Martinyuk looks winded! Martinyuk drops his hands momentarily. Maki doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Martinyuk staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Martinyuk doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.
