Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Manny Quirez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alvar Rautio! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Michael Johnstone and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rautio gets caught flat footed, as Quirez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Rautio has an active guard here but Quirez has managed to pass into half guard.
Rautio looking for submissions off his back. Quirez wants to work for an arm triangle but Rautio is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Quirez wants to control but Rautio is keeping him busy. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rautio wants to control but Quirez is keeping busy.
Quirez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rautio on the ground. Quirez is pressing down on Rautio's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rautio is holding on for now. Rautio actively working from the bottom here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rautio is concentrating on defense, preventing Quirez from advancing position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rautio has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Quirez escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Quirez! Rautio is trying to improve his position. Rautio manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Quirez is trying to maintain the position but Rautio is very close to passing his half guard. Rautio seems to be working for a kimura but Quirez defends the submission attempt. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Quirez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Quirez is defending against the submission attempts here by Rautio.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Rautio's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Rautio works his way into side control. A lull in the action here as Rautio stalls from top position. Rautio goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Quirez has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Rautio but great work by Quirez. Rautio struggling a bit here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rautio is not content to let Quirez control the position. Rautio is trying to control Quirez's posture but Quirez avoids it. Rautio manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Rautio is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Quirez pulls his head out easily. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Rautio is controlling Quirez's trapped leg to prevent Quirez from advancing to side control. Quirez is trying to control the action in half guard but Rautio is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Alvar Rautio will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Rautio looks to land a right hand but Quirez moved out of range. Quirez shoots in but no luck this time. Rautio ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Rautio avoids the head kick by Quirez.
Quirez shoots in for a takedown but Rautio shows good takedown defense. Rautio drives through with a takedown into Quirez's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Rautio is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. More stalling from Rautio. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rautio drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rautio jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rautio thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Rautio sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Quirez's guard. Rautio trying to control the pace. Rautio in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Quirez tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Rautio!
