Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex Karelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miroslav Filipovic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karelin kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Russian National Anthem. Filipovic is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Lijepa Naša Domovino. Alex Karelin has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Miroslav Filipovic!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Konstantin Menshow and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karelin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Filipovic working for a triangle but Karelin defends it easily.
Karelin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Filipovic swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Karelin shoots in for a takedown but Filipovic shows good takedown defense.
Filipovic throws a right hand that Karelin ducks under and follows up with a left that Karelin also avoids with ease.

It looks like Alex Karelin has been cut.
Karelin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Filipovic's waist but Filipovic gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Karelin off to one side.
Filipovic lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Karelin shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Filipovic's guard.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Karelin here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Karelin is looking to work some ground and pound but Filipovic has wrist control.
Karelin tries to free his leg and advance position but Filipovic is retaining full guard.

Karelin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Filipovic had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Karelin is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Filipovic Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Karelin's back instead.

Filipovic is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Karelin can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
