Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Edison Shaffer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of London, James Rudabaugh! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, James Ackerman and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rudabaugh tries to clinch but Shaffer is having none of it. Rudabaugh pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. As Rudabaugh looks to move away, Shaffer throws a big counter combo but Rudabaugh just gets out of the way. Rudabaugh gets a double leg takedown into Shaffer's guard. Rudabaugh throwing strikes but missing. Rudabaugh must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Rudabaugh trying to stand up but can't free himself from Shaffer's guard. Rudabaugh controlling from the top position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shaffer is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rudabaugh is aware though and is defending well. Shaffer working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Rudabaugh.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rudabaugh drops back, looking for a kneebar! Shaffer looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Shaffer looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Shaffer!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shaffer looks up at the clock and then as Rudabaugh takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Shaffer smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Shaffer controlling the position. Rudabaugh tries to get back to half guard but can't. Shaffer working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rudabaugh can't do much from the bottom here. Shaffer throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Rudabaugh on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Shaffer lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Rudabaugh down.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rudabaugh is looking for a sweep. Rudabaugh is trying to work for a sweep but Shaffer has mounted him! Rudabaugh tries to buck Shaffer off but he can't manage it. Shaffer scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Shaffer content just to control the position here. Rudabaugh is looking to get to half guard. Shaffer controlling the position easily from mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shaffer lands a heavy elbow. Shaffer lands a couple of good shots and Rudabaugh has given up his back, trying to escape the position! Shaffer has the hooks in. Rudabaugh is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Can Rudabaugh hold on?! Shaffer is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Rudabaugh is trying to get back to his feet but Shaffer has full control of the position and if anything, Rudabaugh has just worked his way into a worse spot. Rudabaugh is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Edison Shaffer dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Rudabaugh pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rudabaugh closes the distance and pushes Shaffer back into the cage. Rudabaugh has hold of one of Shaffer's legs. Shaffer is fighting the takedown attempt but Rudabaugh gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Rudabaugh wants to control from the top but Shaffer keeps moving. Shaffer is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rudabaugh can do to turn this around? Rudabaugh has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Shaffer to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Rudabaugh is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Shaffer pulls down on the head and he's put Rudabaugh to sleep! This one is all over!
