Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryoto Machita!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leonardo Sousa!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Edson Gomes and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sousa throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Machita's waist but Machita gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sousa off to one side.
Sousa tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Machita paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sousa shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Machita's guard.
Sousa is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Sousa drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sousa jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Sousa prevents Machita from getting back to his feet.
Sousa drops back, looking for a kneebar! Machita looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Machita looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Machita!
Sousa looks gassed!
Machita has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Machita lands a glancing blow to the side of Sousa's head.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Sousa wants to clinch.
Nice sprawl there from Machita as Sousa shoots in.
Machita fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Sousa looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Machita keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Machita throws a jab but it's blocked by Sousa.
Sousa gets caught flat footed, as Machita shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Machita decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Sousa blocks a head kick by Machita.
Machita connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Sousa! He's out on his feet! Machita rushes in and drops Sousa with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Ryoto Machita!
