PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pal Hasani (ranked 3192 p4p, 345 weight class) and Isaish Rashad (ranked 3995 p4p, 392 weight class). Hasani comes to the cage accompanied by Slipknot - Duality. Isaish Rashad told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pal Hasani! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Isaish Rashad ! The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Wagner Zegers and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hasani misses with a takedown attempt - Rashad sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Hasani looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Rashad slaps away a takedown attempt from Hasani, before circling back to the center of the mat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pal Hasani. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hasani tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rashad swats him away and circles back towards the center. Rashad doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Rashad throws a shot from downtown. Hasani moves away and avoids it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rashad misses with a straight right. Hasani doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. A telegraphed right hand from Rashad misses the target. Hasani shoots in looking for a takedown but Rashad manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hasani's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rashad scores with a shot to the body.
Rashad swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Rashad throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Rashad lands with a good body shot. Hasani will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Rashad looks to land a left hand but Hasani moved out of range nicely. A slow jab from Rashad misses its intended target. Hasani half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Rashad 's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Rashad duly obliges. Rashad dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Rashad feints a jab promting Hasani to slip. Rashad then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Hasani slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hasani tries to clinch there but Rashad circles away.
Rashad has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far. Hasani keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Hasani is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Rashad looks to land a right hand but Hasani moved out of range. Rashad misses the shot to the body. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hasani is defended easily by Rashad . Hasani uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rashad . A jab from Rashad finds it's way through Hasani's defenses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rashad lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Rashad misses with a wild body shot. Rashad works over Hasani's head and body with a nice combination. Rashad dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Rashad misses with the combination.
Hasani ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Rashad throws a shot from downtown. Hasani moves away and avoids it. Rashad fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Rashad with a body punch. A glancing blow.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rashad lands with a cross. Rashad rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hasani moves out of range and avoids them all easily. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hasani avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Hasani tries to counter with a takedown but Rashad is quick to defend against it. Hasani shoots for a double leg takedown but Rashad sprawls well. He's pushed Hasani's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Nice body punch from Rashad . No luck with that takedown attempt from Hasani. Hasani misses with a takedown attempt - Rashad sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Rashad throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Hasani sees it coming and avoids it easily.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Hasani has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Hasani is rocked! Rashad throws a monster overhand right that drops Hasani! Rashad follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:16 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Isaish Rashad ! Isaish Rashad is the new lightweight champion! After the fight, Isaish Rashad was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
