PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hirooki Gedo (ranked 2757 p4p, 313 weight class) and Jesse Juntta (ranked 4684 p4p, 446 weight class). Gedo comes to the ring accompanied by Gedo Entrance. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hirooki Gedo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jesse Juntta!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A cross from Gedo lands.
Gedo attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Juntta pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Juntta tries to land a front kick but Gedo steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Gedo checks a low kick from Juntta.
Gedo lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Gedo.

Gedo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Juntta, who protects the arm well.

Gedo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Juntta is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Gedo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gedo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Juntta is trying to get back to his feet.

Gedo tries for a kimura but Juntta is defending well.
Juntta wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Gedo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gedo passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Juntta!
We've been hearing good reports from Gedo's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Gedo wants to take Juntta's back here but Juntta is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Gedo tries to control but Juntta wriggling away.

Juntta's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Gedo with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Juntta told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Gedo can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Juntta is looking to escape.

Gedo is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Juntta bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Juntta feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Gedo's calf.

Gedo darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

A clash of legs there as Juntta blocks the low kick.

and Gedo counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Juntta will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Gedo looks to throw the jab but Juntta is out of range.
Juntta tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Gedo tried to counter with a leg kick but Juntta avoided it.
Juntta throws a head kick but Gedo moves out of range.
Juntta looks to land a body kick but Gedo moved away.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gedo does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Jesse Juntta is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gedo thows a left - swing and a miss!
Juntta steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Gedo. That one must have hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hirooki Gedo dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Gedo on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Juntta lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gedo circles away quickly and effectively.
Jesse Juntta is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Juntta takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Gedo lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Gedo lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Juntta sprawling to the canvas. Gedo follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Juntta hang on?

It looks like Jesse Juntta has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gedo trying to control from half guard but Juntta is working away.
Juntta is still in real trouble! Can Gedo finish him?
Gedo stops Juntta from getting back to his feet.
Juntta seems to have recovered his senses.
Gedo is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Juntta misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gedo fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Juntta! But no joy.
Gedo looks to land a left hand but Juntta moved out of range nicely.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Juntta unleashes a big counter combination but Gedo bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Gedo closes the distance and pushes Juntta back into the ropes.

Gedo blocks an elbow strike from Juntta.

With the fighters up against the ropes, Juntta throws an elbow but misses.
Gedo struggles to land a body shot inside as Juntta controls his hands.

Gedo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Juntta can do to turn this around?

Juntta is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Gedo with a body shot.
Hirooki Gedo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Juntta counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Gedo thuds a left hand into Juntta's body.
A solid leg kick lands there for Gedo.
Juntta throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gedo sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Gedo ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Juntta misses with a few strikes there.
Gedo tests Juntta's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Juntta throws a sloppy head kick and Gedo moves out of range easily.

Gedo jabs Juntta right on the nose. Juntta blinks but takes it well.
Juntta takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Juntta moves out of range as Gedo strikes.
Juntta lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Juntta fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Juntta takes a swing at Gedo's ribcage but misses.
A left and a right from Gedo both land. Nice combination.
Gedo slips a jab and a cross from Juntta.
Juntta walks straight into a right hand from Gedo - that's dropped him! Gedo jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Juntta from any more punishment! Juntta complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Hirooki Gedo!
After winning the bout, Hirooki Gedo thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
