Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mikhail Popkov (ranked 1322 p4p, 202 weight class) and Jan Sobieski (ranked 2559 p4p, 349 weight class). Jan Sobieski has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mikhail Popkov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jan Sobieski! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Luis Engracia and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Popkov has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Sobieski. Popkov takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Sobieski thumps Popkov with a low kick. Sobieski takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Sobieski has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Popkov is landing a low percentage of strikes. Sobieski misses with a low kick. Sobieski scores with a leg kick.
Sobieski scores with a jab to the jaw. Popkov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sobieski.
Sobieski tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Popkov was well out of range. Poor timing from Sobieski. Popkov misses with an uppercut. Sobieski changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Popkov looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. An elbow from Sobieski crashes against the mat.
Sobieski misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

That's one minute gone in the round. Sobieski might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Popkov haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Check out the look on Sobieski's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Popkov is trying to buck Sobieski off. Popkov is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Sobieski wants to control but Popkov is keeping him busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sobieski in side control lands a decent elbow. Popkov tries to escape but Sobieski is in control. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Sobieski is trying to get an arm triangle but Popkov is defending well. Popkov is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Sobieski is controlling him well. Sobieski working the ground and pound from side control. Popkov takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Popkov tries to improve position but can't. Sobieski looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Popkov is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Sobieski cracks Popkov with a big right hand but Popkov just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Popkov wants to get back to his feet but Sobieski drags him back down. Popkov is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Sobieski's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Sobieski not landing any meaningful shots this time. Sobieski lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Popkov is trying to stand up here but Sobieski is controlling him well. Sobieski is keen to just control but Popkov is a slippery customer. Sobieski seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Popkov pushes Sobieski off looking to stand but Sobieski dives back in and keeps control.

It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Popkov defends it well. Sobieski slips a nice elbow through Popkov's hands, connecting with Popkov's forehead. Sobieski is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Popkov wants to get back to his feet.

Sobieski feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Sobieski sitting in guard here, content to control. Sobieski avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sobieski distracts Popkov with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sobieski wants to control from the top but Popkov keeps moving. Jan Sobieski has got the better of the ground game so far. Popkov has momentary wrist control but Sobieski slips an elbow through the middle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Popkov is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Sobieski lands a couple of decent looking shots. Sobieski is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Sobieski working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Popkov looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Sobieski showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Sobieski works a leg free and moves into half guard. Popkov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sobieski is working away from the top position though. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Sobieski connects with a nice short shot to Popkov's temple.
