Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Trent Ruta (ranked 4200 p4p, 415 weight class) and Nick Dual (ranked 22812 p4p, 536 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nick Dual!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dual pushes Ruta up against the ropes in a clinch.

Ruta escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Dual moves into range and clinches up with Ruta.
Ruta definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Ruta trying to land knees to the body.

Ruta breaks the clinch.
Ruta misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Dual closes the distance and pushes Ruta back into the ropes.
A short right from Dual on the inside.
Dual lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Dual tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Ruta has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Dual after a bit of a struggle.
Ruta tries to score a body lock takedown but Dual shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
With the fighters up against the ropes, Dual throws an elbow but misses.

Ruta tries to pull guard but Dual forces him back to his feet, against the ropes.

Ruta goes for a takedown attempt but Dual pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Ruta is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Dual pulls him back up using the underhooks.
A nice right hand lands inside from Dual.

Ruta pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Dual moves into range and clinches up with Ruta.
Ruta can't find room to land a body shot as Dual controls the action.
Dual lands a hook to the side of the head.
Ruta tries for a takedown. No joy.
Dual blocks an uppercut.

Ruta jumps into guard, dragging Dual to the mat.

Ruta has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Dual trying to control the position from guard on top but Ruta is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Dual utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Ruta throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Dual wants to control but Ruta passes easily into half guard.

Ruta is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dual defends it well.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dual can do anything to dispel that myth.
Ruta landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Ruta remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
