Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Gvozdev (ranked 3803 p4p, 352 weight class) and Derrick Ranger (ranked 4029 p4p, 368 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, George Gvozdev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Derrick Ranger! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ranger looks for a takedown but Gvozdev sprawls well. Ranger fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Gvozdev swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Gvozdev misses with a straight right. Ranger closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ranger lands in his opponent's guard. Ranger sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gvozdev's guard. Ranger is looking to advance position but Gvozdev won't allow it. Ranger is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ranger is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Ranger is looking for a kimura here.
Gvozdev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ranger on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ranger is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gvozdev is trying to get back to full guard. Ranger wants to pass to mount but Gvozdev is defending the position. Ranger missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Ranger throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Ranger wants to take a breather but Gvozdev is having none of it. Ranger content to control rather than advance. Ranger throwing shots but Gvozdev is blocking nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Ranger wants to free his trapped foot but Gvozdev is holding on for dear life with his legs. Ranger stalling. My spies in Star Studded Beef inform me that Ranger has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Ranger has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Ranger drops an elbow to the side of Gvozdev's head. Ranger seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Ranger is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Gvozdev reverses the position - he's now on top in Ranger's guard. Ranger looking for a sweep. Not yet Ranger, not yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ranger is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gvozdev is aware though and is defending well. Ranger is adopting a defensive guard. Ranger's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ranger can do anything to dispel that myth. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Ranger wants to sweep here but Gvozdev controlling him for the moment. Ranger has Gvozdev pulled in close to control his posture. Ranger is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Ranger pulls Gvozdev in close to prevent any damage. Ranger has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gvozdev can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Ranger pulls Gvozdev in to control the position. Gvozdev is breathing heavily. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Ranger is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Derrick Ranger dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Ranger shoots and misses and Gvozdev connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Gvozdev closes the distance and lands a one-two.
It looks like Derrick Ranger has been cut. Ranger shoots in for a takedown but Gvozdev shows good takedown defense. Ranger will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. George Gvozdev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Derrick Ranger. Gvozdev scores with a shot to the body.
Ranger shoots and misses letting Gvozdev counter with a right hand. Derrick Ranger seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ranger shoots and misses and Gvozdev counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Ranger misses with a takedown attempt and Gvozdev counters with a big right hand! Oh Ranger is in trouble here! Gvozdev follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!
