Coming up we have a bantamweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Masa Wasa (ranked 2198 p4p, 101 weight class) and Mr Ward (ranked 4221 p4p, 176 weight class). Wasa comes to the cage accompanied by Welcome To The Jungle. On his way into the cage it seems that Masa Wasa has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Masa Wasa seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the bantamweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 14 wins and 11 losses; Masa Wasa! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 8 wins and 11 losses; Mr Ward! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, William Peck and Gregory Folan.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Ward shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wasa pinned against the cage. Wasa gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Wasa shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Wasa (2) vs (0) Ward Wasa trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Ward looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wasa is one step ahead there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ward is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wasa defends well. Wasa pushes down on Ward's leg and manages to get into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Wasa looking for the RNC. Wasa has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. I really don't envy Ward right now.
Ward prevents Wasa from getting a body triangle. Wasa doesn't have the hooks in and Ward manages to turn into his guard.

Let's see whether that pays dividends! Ward is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Wasa keeping full guard, as Ward tries to pass.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ward trying to control the position from guard on top but Wasa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Ward is pushing down on Wasa's leg trying to pass to half guard. Wasa is fighting to maintain full guard but Ward has managed to sneak the leg through. Ward is looking for a kimura here.

That's five minutes gone in the round. Ward is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Wasa defends it well. Ward is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Wait, no, Wasa rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Ward's guard! Nice work there by Wasa! Ward is looking for a triangle here but Wasa uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

That's seven minutes gone in the round. Wasa happy to just control the position for now. Wasa wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ward, who protects the arm well. Wasa looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Wasa controlling the position.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Ward prevents Wasa from improving position. Ward tries to bench press Wasa off him but Wasa keeps the position. Ward gets back to half guard. Wasa moves nicely into side control. Score +3 for passing guard: Wasa (16) vs (5) Ward Wasa trying to control the position but Ward is working away. Ward is trying to get back to half guard. Wasa will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Ward tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Wasa wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Ward prevents Wasa from moving into mount. Ward is looking for a sweep. Ward stops Wasa from passing to mount. Wasa is looking to take a break and control but Ward is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Ward regains half guard there - taking advantage of Wasa's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Ward won't allow Wasa to pass to mount. Ward wants to sweep but Wasa has passed to side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Wasa (19) vs (5) Ward Wasa advances nicely into full mount. Score +2 for reaching mount: Wasa (21) vs (5) Ward Ward keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Ward is still trying to improve position.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Wasa controlling the pace for now. Wasa swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Ward is now in Wasa's guard. A big mistake from Wasa there, giving up the dominant position! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Wasa (21) vs (7) Ward Wasa looking for a sweep. Not yet Wasa, not yet. Ward wants to control from the top but Wasa keeps moving.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Ward passes Wasa's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Ward is looking for a kimura here.
Ward stalling away here and it's allowed Wasa to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Wasa working for submissions but it's allowed Ward to get to half guard.

That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Wasa tries to improve his position but Ward has taken his back! Ward has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Wasa tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Ward pushes Wasa away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 14:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mr Ward! After the fight, Mr Ward was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly. |
