Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andre Capeta! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jesse Manners! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Manners has a takedown stuffed. Manners fails with a takedown attempt. Manners misses with a takedown attempt - Capeta sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Andre Capeta has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jesse Manners. Manners decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Capeta might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Capeta has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Manners escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Manners! Capeta is looking for a sweep.
That's one minute gone in the round. Manners thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Capeta is looking for a sweep. Capeta is working hard here to advance position. Capeta is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Manners off and has taken his back! Capeta working for a choke but Manners is defending well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Capeta is breathing heavily. Capeta has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. Capeta is persistently looking for the submission but Manners is defending it well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Manners tries to break free.
Capeta is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Manners is defending well though. Capeta let's go of the attempt for now. Capeta has the hooks in. Manners is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Capeta is trying to stick to Manners's back but Manners is turning into Capeta. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Capeta's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Manners. Manners trying to control the position from guard on top but Capeta is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Manners is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Manners drops back looking for a leg! Capeta is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Capeta manages to kick Manners off! Manners jumps back into Capeta's guard. Capeta is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Manners rolls with it to try and escape but Capeta cranks on the arm and Manners is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
