Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Benjamin Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, mauricio correa! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. correa working a defensive guard here.
Smith working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Smith passes into half guard. Smith is thwarting correa's attempts to control the position. Smith is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so correa is just riding it out for now. Smith eventually gives up the hold. correa is trying to maintain the position but Smith is very close to passing his half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smith wants to pass the guard but correa is defending well. correa wants to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. correa is trying to control but can't.
Smith looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. correa tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Smith closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. correa is looking to control Smith's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can correa avoid being mounted? Smith is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Smith frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Smith jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but correa manages to avoid the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, correa has escaped the position, nice work there. Smith is breathing heavily. correa struggling a bit here. Smith wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by correa, who protects the arm well. You can see the frustration on correa's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. correa manages to work his way to half guard, despite Smith's best efforts.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Smith is looking to take a break and control but correa is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Smith is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. correa holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Smith is trying for a kimura here. correa looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Smith wins by kimura!
