Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kaito Matsuda (ranked 7720 p4p, 589 weight class) and Chael Sonnen (ranked 1239 p4p, 158 weight class). Sonnen has chosen Win or lose am a fighter as his entrance music. Chael Sonnen has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

9 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Chael Sonnen!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Chad Campbell and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matsuda stuffs the takedown.
Matsuda moves to clinch but Sonnen breaks away
and Sonnen counters with a shoot takedown. Matsuda fights it but they end up in guard.
Matsuda knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sonnen on the ground.
Sonnen works over Matsuda with some ground and pound from guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sonnen is stalling in the full guard.
Sonnen postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sonnen throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Matsuda works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Sonnen avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sonnen lands a couple of elbows.

Matsuda is looking to stand up but Sonnen isn't so interested in that idea.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Sonnen's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Sonnen keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Matsuda's head.
Sonnen trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sonnen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Matsuda is rocked!
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sonnen gets to his feet and stands over Matsuda, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Matsuda felt that one! Sonnen unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Matsuda from any more punishment!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chael Sonnen!
