Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Abdul Nurmy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Van Starr! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Starr tests Nurmy's chin there with a solid looking shot. A momentary lapse in concentration from Starr enables Nurmy to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Starr manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Starr really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nurmy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Nurmy is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Nurmy works a leg free and moves into half guard. Starr is looking to improve his position.
Nurmy works his foot free and advances to mount. Nurmy has control of Starr's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Starr regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Nurmy wants to finish this one by submission but Starr is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Nurmy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nurmy content just to control the position here. Starr defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Nurmy. Starr is trying to escape the mount.
Nurmy is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Starr is surviving well by controlling Nurmy's body position as best he can. Nurmy is working for a guillotine from mount but Starr frees his head quite easily.
Starr tries to improve his position but Nurmy has taken his back! Nurmy has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Starr tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Nurmy pushes Starr away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
