PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joe Boxer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy D (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). D has chosen Get Back by Ludacris as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Boxer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Billy D!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Franklyn Lucas and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Boxer misses the target.
Boxer scores with a one two! D had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Billy D has been cut.
A telegraphed right hand from Boxer misses the target.
Boxer connects with a right hand. D shakes it off.
Boxer throws a hook but D blocks it.
Boxer throws the left hand but D avoids the punch easily.
D throws a series of punches but Boxer avoids them all with ease.
Boxer misses with a hook. D ducked under it nicely.
Boxer misses with an uppercut.
Boxer circles away from the clinch attempt.
Boxer misses with a looping right.
Boxer throws a hook but D blocks it.
Boxer misses with a straight right.
Nice defenses there by D.
D uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Boxer.
D with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Boxer to score with a decent uppercut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Boxer jabbing away but nothing is landing.
D moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.


That has opened up Billy D's cut even more.
D uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Boxer.

D feints and as Boxer raises his hands in defense, D changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

D with a nice head shot there.
D trying to control but Boxer is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
D postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
D slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Boxer taking punishment in the form of punches.
Boxer tries to improve position but can't.
Boxer is working hard here to advance position.
D misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Boxer wants to control but D postures up.
Boxer tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but D wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Boxer is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Boxer is looking to reverse the position.
D sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Boxer is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Boxer on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Boxer tries to get out of the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
D takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Boxer pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
D moves away from the strike by Boxer.
Boxer throws a hook to the side of D's head but D sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
D staying out of range there.
D wants to clinch.

D fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Boxer, pushing him back against the cage.
D blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Boxer misses with a punch on the inside.
D is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Boxer pushes D back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Boxer is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
D cracks Boxer with a nice body shot.
D is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Boxer pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Boxer misses with a punch on the inside.
D fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Boxer wants to break the clinch but can't.
D blocking some punches.
Boxer lands a left hand.
Boxer is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
D tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Boxer's elbow.
D taking a breather.
Boxer avoiding damage as D throws knees to the body.
Boxer wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
D can't get the takedown.
Boxer lands with a short head shot on the inside.
D trying to control the position but instead, Boxer has worked for underhooks and has pushed D into the cage.
Boxer lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Boxer's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Boxer misses with an uppercut. D saw that one coming.
Boxer avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A jab from Boxer misses.
Boxer throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Boxer missing with a left hand there. D was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Boxer tries to keep at a distance but D has taken the fight into the clinch.
D is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Boxer manages to break the clinch.
Boxer is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Boxer misses with a looping right.
Boxer throws an overhand right that lands on D's shoulder, as D tries to avoid the shot.
D ducks under a wild hook from Boxer.
Boxer misses with an uppercut.
Joe Boxer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boxer ducks under a wild hook from D.
A big right from Boxer misses.
D getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
D steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Boxer.
Boxer fails to land with a series of punches.
Boxer throws an uppercut from half a mile away. D sees it coming and avoids it easily.

D closes the distance and pushes Boxer back into the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

D lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Knees in the clinch landing for D.
Boxer is breathing heavily.
Boxer misses with the head strike.
Boxer misses with a short punch on the inside.
D presses Boxer against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Boxer dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Billy D's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



D changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Boxer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Boxer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for D on the ground.
D lands some shots froms side control.
D landing a few strikes.
D cracks Boxer with a big right hand but Boxer just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

D tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Boxer tries to escape but D is in control.
A lull in the action here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
D landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Boxer taking punishment in the form of punches.
Boxer seems a little lost for a moment, as D dominates the positioning.
D tries to advance to mount but Boxer denies him.
Boxer is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but D has just dragged him back down to the mat.
D has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

D misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Boxer takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
D throws a strike aimed at the side of Boxer's head but Boxer avoids it well.
Boxer tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Boxer is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, D asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Boxer gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Boxer is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
D with good strikes from the mount here!
D pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
D working away from the top, dropping strikes.


Boxer is rocked!
Boxer flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
D is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Boxer can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Oh Boxer is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Boxer wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Boxer seems to have got his legs back now.
D lands a big elbow.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Oooh a big shot lands for D! Boxer is out! The ref dives in to save him from more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Billy D!
