PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Quinton Sanders (ranked 5183 p4p, 0 weight class) and Athos Magno (ranked 5001 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Quinton Sanders!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Athos Magno!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magno swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Sanders counters with a right hand to the body.

Sanders shoots in and gets a takedown into Magno's guard.
Sanders sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Sanders scoring with some ground and pound.
Sanders is working Magno over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Sanders throws a big elbow that misses.
Sanders slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanders's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Sanders lands a couple of elbows.
Sanders prevents Magno from getting back to his feet.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sanders accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Sanders is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Sanders with a flurry of punches that miss.
Sanders is in close to Magno's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Magno is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sanders with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Sanders working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Magno's head.
Magno wants to get back to his feet but Sanders is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Sanders is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sanders looks to land a combination but Magno avoids it well.
Some wild striking there from Magno.

Sanders fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Magno sprawls well initially but Sanders persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Sanders content to control rather than advance.
Sanders takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Sanders prevents Magno from standing back up.
Magno won't allow Sanders to pass to mount.
Magno is looking to escape.
Sanders lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Sanders is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Magno doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sanders.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Magno wants to get back to his feet.
Sanders tries to pass to full mount but Magno defends it.
Sanders slips a nice elbow through Magno's hands, connecting with Magno's forehead.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sanders winds up and cracks Magno with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Sanders looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Magno with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quinton Sanders dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Sanders misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Magno lands a jab to Sanders's midsection.

Sanders drives through with a takedown into Magno's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Sanders passes Magno's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ground and pound from Sanders.

Sanders is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Magno sees it coming and defends easily.
Sanders content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sanders lands a nice short elbow.
Magno tries to kick Sanders off in order to stand up. Sanders Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Sanders is staying tight to Magno's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Quinton Sanders overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Magno wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Sanders is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Magno is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Sanders is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Magno can do to turn this around?

Sanders controls the position.
Magno on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Sanders tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sanders has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Sanders scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Magno to see if he's OK.
Sanders cracks Magno with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Sanders is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Magno's shoulder. That is not cool.
Magno is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Sanders asserts his dominance and retains side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sanders tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sanders has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Magno is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Sanders has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Magno takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Sanders lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Sanders lands a decent elbow from side control.
Sanders staying calm.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Magno taking a bit of punishment here - Sanders scoring with strikes.
Magno seems a little lost for a moment, as Sanders dominates the positioning.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sanders throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Magno works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sanders uses his free foot to push down on Magno's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Magno.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quinton Sanders dominated that second round.
That's time! Sanders's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Magno wants to get back to his feet but Sanders drags him back down.
Magno takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Sanders controls the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sanders throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Quinton Sanders showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sanders, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
