PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Judson Franks (ranked 5106 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Krawinski (ranked 7420 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Judson Franks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dan Krawinski!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Krawinski closes the distance and pushes Franks back into the cage.
Franks keeps control of Krawinski as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Franks jumps into guard, dragging Krawinski to the mat.
Franks is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Krawinski is looking to control Franks's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Krawinski avoid being mounted?
Franks missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Franks is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Krawinski wants to get back to his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Franks throwing shots but Krawinski is blocking nicely.
Krawinski wants to control but Franks is keeping busy.
Franks is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Franks is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Krawinski defends it well.
Krawinski manages to get to full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Franks gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Franks pushes Krawinski up against the cage in a clinch.
Franks tries to pull guard but Krawinski holds him up against the cage and eventually Franks drops back down to his feet.
Franks has Krawinski pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Krawinski manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Franks is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Krawinski pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Judson Franks. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Franks jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Krawinski walks away with a smile on his face. Franks gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Krawinski throws a series of punches but Franks avoids them all with ease.

Franks blocks a head kick by Krawinski.
Franks drops down looking for a counter takedown but Krawinski sprawls and moves away.
Krawinski looks winded!

Krawinski closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Krawinski lands in his opponent's guard.
Franks could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Krawinski tries to free his leg and advance position but Franks is retaining full guard.
Franks tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Krawinski throwing strikes from guard but Franks blocks nicely.
Franks wants to get back to his feet but Krawinski is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Krawinski seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

A close round but Dan Krawinski will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Krawinski is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Franks works his way to full guard. Good work.
Franks tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Franks has a closed guard, preventing Krawinski from standing up.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Krawinski with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Franks escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Krawinski gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Krawinski trying to control the position from guard on top but Franks is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Krawinski closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Franks is trying to get back to half guard.

Franks tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Krawinski presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

It looks like Judson Franks has been cut.
Franks wants to try and get back to his feet.
Krawinski looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Franks looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Franks can't escape the position.

Franks rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Krawinski connects with a nice short shot to Franks's temple.

Franks looking for a kimura from the bottom but Krawinski passes into side control!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Krawinski content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Franks throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Krawinski showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Judson Franks's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Krawinski lands a damaging elbow.


Judson Franks's cut is getting worse.
Krawinski throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Krawinski escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Krawinski rushes Franks and presses him up against the cage.
Krawinski is leaning against Franks and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Krawinski breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Krawinski changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Franks looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Franks might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Krawinski thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Franks tries to improve position but can't.
Franks sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Franks is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Franks keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Krawinski has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Krawinski postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Franks looks a forlorn figure.
Franks is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Krawinski. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Krawinski content just to control the position here.
Franks is bucking up trying to escape but Krawinski cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Franks is trying to escape the mount.

Krawinski takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Dan Krawinski has got the better of the ground game so far.
Krawinski has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Franks's face.


Franks is rocked!


Jeez, Judson Franks's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Judson Franks's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Dan Krawinski!
