PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Diego Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Diego Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Richard Cote!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Russell Pearce and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cote throws a series of strikes that have Sanchez backpedaling.
A jab lands there for Cote.
Sanchez takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Sanchez swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Cote counters with a nice uppercut.


Sanchez is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A punch combination from Sanchez misses.
Left hook, right uppercut from Sanchez.
Sanchez takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Cote digs a good body shot into Sanchez's ribs.
Sanchez takes one to the chin there.
Oh Sanchez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Cote misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sanchez.
Sanchez seems to have got his legs back now.

Sanchez scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sanchez is breathing heavily.
Cote tries to get to full guard but Sanchez has control of the leg.
Sanchez is looking to take a break and control but Cote is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Sanchez tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cote just stands there and leans against the cage.

Cote has had enough of the clinch but Sanchez keeps him there for the moment.
Cote cracks Sanchez with a nice body shot.
Sanchez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cote smiles and moves away.
Cote throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Good exchange - Cote coming out on top.
Cote lands a nice looking body shot.
Cote works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Cote scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Sanchez walks into a straight right hand from Cote.
Cote connects with a crisp jab.
Sanchez doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Sanchez tries to move into range but Cote moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Cote tests Sanchez's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Cote lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Sanchez backs up against the cage.
Cote misses with a wild combination.

Sanchez throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Cote makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Sanchez takes one on the button.
Cote lands the left hand.
Sanchez drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Sanchez has a takedown stuffed.
The crowd cheers as Cote lands an impressive looking overhand right. Sanchez doesn't seem phased though.
Sanchez with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Cote to score with a decent uppercut.
Cote lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Cote.
Cote dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Cote lands an overhand right.
Richard Cote is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cote tries to bum rush Sanchez with a series of wild strikes but Sanchez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Sanchez is looking to clinch but Cote is avoiding it.
Sanchez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cote as he avoids it easily.
Sanchez closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Sanchez shoots in for a double leg but Cote sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Cote avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Cote lands a jab-cross combination.
Cote is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round!Sanchez had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Nice defenses there by Sanchez.
Cote is working the combinations to good effect here.

Cote is trying to break the clinch but Sanchez has him pressed against the cage.

Sanchez fails to pull the fight into his guard.
A nice left hand lands by Cote.
Sanchez is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Cote gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Cote has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sanchez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sanchez passes Cote's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Sanchez is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cote doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sanchez.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sanchez misses with a takedown attempt - Cote sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Richard Cote seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cote has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Sanchez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Sanchez lands a big shot there that rocks Cote but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Cote is bucking up trying to escape but Sanchez cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sanchez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Sanchez lands a big shot there that rocks Cote but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Cote is in all sorts of trouble here.
Cote tries to hold on but Sanchez pushes him away.
Sanchez fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Sanchez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richard Cote showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Sanchez uses his free foot to push down on Cote's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Cote.

Cote moves into full guard.

Sanchez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cote's waist but Cote gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sanchez off to one side.
Cote fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Sanchez avoids a punch combination nicely.
Sanchez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Cote throws out the jab.

Sanchez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sanchez prevents Cote from getting back to his feet.
Cote is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Diego Sanchez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Sanchez drops back looking for a leg! Cote is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cote manages to kick Sanchez off! Sanchez jumps back into Cote's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Diego Sanchez showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Cote has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
