Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of The Island, James Corbett! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gordon Harper! The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Michael Johnstone and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Corbett with a lazy takedown attempt and Harper counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Horrible takedown attempt by Corbett or perhaps it was just good defense by Harper, which made it look bad. A jab from Harper does it's job there. Harper stuffs the takedown attempt from Corbett. Corbett gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Corbett. That's going to take a lot out of him. Corbett shoots and misses and Harper counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Harper scores with a head kick.
James Corbett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A jab lands there for Harper. Corbett dives in and grabs Harper's left leg, looking for a takedown. Harper pushes down on Corbett's head and hops out. Corbett sets himself, and Harper steps forward looking for the clinch! Corbett avoids it this time. Harper leaves Corbett with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Corbett shoots and misses and Harper counters by clinching up. Corbett is breathing heavily. Harper lands with a short head shot on the inside. A short right from Harper. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Corbett tries for a takedown. No joy.

Harper lands with a right to the head. Corbett swings wildly with an uppercut but Harper uses good head movement to avoid it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harper lands with a right to the head. Still in the clinch, Harper scores with a nice short uppercut. Harper lands with a short head shot on the inside. Harper prevents a takedown attempt there.
Harper is leaning against Corbett and scores with a nice uppercut to the body. Harper lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. Corbett is working for takedown but Harper is calmly controlling the position for now. Corbett drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Corbett is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Harper gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. A short right from Harper on the inside. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Good body shot from Harper.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Harper pushes Corbett back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. A hook to the body from Harper.
Harper lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Corbett backwards. Harper blocks an uppercut.
Harper lands a right hand. Harper scores with an uppercut up the middle. Harper lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Harper lands on the inside with an uppercut. A nice left hand lands by Harper.
Corbett wants a takedown.
Corbett is trying to drag Harper to the mat but Harper just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Harper prevents a takedown attempt there.
Harper cracks Corbett with a nice body shot. Harper makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Harper lands a shoulder strike. Corbett misses with some punches.
Corbett has Harper pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Harper manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. A hook to the body from Harper.
Harper lands a nice uppercut. Harper lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Corbett backwards.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A short uppercut from Harper. Harper lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Harper scores with a shoulder strike. Corbett tries to score a body lock takedown but Harper shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Corbett goes for a takedown in the clinch but Harper prevents it.
Harper lands a left hand.
Corbett wants a takedown but no success here.
Corbett has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Harper is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Corbett tries to stall but Harper uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Harper manages to pull guard.
Corbett drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Harper manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Corbett has Harper in his guard. Harper seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Harper's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Corbett throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Harper is posturing up here but Corbett has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Harper tries to roll out but it's too tight and Harper has to tap! Slick submission there by Corbett!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). James Corbett! After winning the bout, James Corbett thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
