PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Leopoldo Rich (ranked 5241 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Jack (ranked 7814 p4p, 0 weight class). Jack has chosen Off deez as his entrance music. James Jack will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leopoldo Rich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Jack!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Daniel Cesar and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jack slaps away a takedown attempt from Rich, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Jack gets the takedown into side control.
Rich prevents Jack from moving into mount.

Jack wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rich, who protects the arm well.

Jack tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Jack goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Rich has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Jack but great work by Rich.

Rich decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Rich shoots in for a takedown but Jack shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Rich closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jack quickly recovers to half guard.
Jack looks like he's trying to stand up.
Rich is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Jack is trying to get back to full guard.

Jack is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rich pulls his head out easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rich perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Jack wants to control but Rich is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Rich fails with a takedown attempt.

Rich looks for a takedown but Jack sprawls well.

Jack shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Rich is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Rich wants to get back to his feet.
Rich trying to hold on to Jack's head to control him but Jack postures up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jack is working for a kimura but Rich is defending it quite comfortably.
Jack is looking to advance position but Rich won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but James Jack will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Rich tries to clinch up but Jack circles away and keeps his distance.

Jack wants to counter with a clinch but Rich pushes him away.

Rich shoots and misses
and Jack counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Rich is lucky that one didn't land flush.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rich shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jack as he avoids it easily.
Jack throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Jack gets a takedown into half guard.

Rich has one foot on Jack's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rich shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Jack napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rich wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jack keeps working.
Rich lands an elbow.
Jack is looking to regain half guard here but Rich keeps moving and retains side control.
A lull in the action here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rich tries to score with some ground and pound. Jack controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Jack is not content to let Rich control the position.
Rich scoring with punches from side control.
Rich remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Jack shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jack was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Rich is rocked!

Jack is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rich is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Oh Rich is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jack cracks Rich with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Jack immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Rich is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Jack!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Jack!
An intense looking James Jack took to the microphone post fight and gave a little speech: 'i won? YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH'.
