Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
32 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anthony Pettis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Raphael Antunes! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Antunes tries a head kick but it misses.
Pettis lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Pettis darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Pettis thows a body kick. Antunes tries to catch it but that hurt him. Antunes walks into a straight right hand from Pettis. Pettis throws a nice inside leg kick. Pettis jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Antunes misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Pettis lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
It looks like Raphael Antunes has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Pettis scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Pettis connects with a looping right hand.
Antunes throws a left and a right that both miss
letting Pettis counter with a right hand. A decent looking cross lands there for Pettis. Pettis lands with a right, followed by a left to the temple and Antunes goes down! The ref sends Pettis to a neutral corner so he can begin the count. 3,4,5,6 and Antunes is back to his feet. He seems a little groggy but the referee thinks he's OK to continue, so we're back to the action!
Antunes is rocked! Antunes drops his guard momentarily, allowing Pettis to crack him with a picture perfect lead left hook! Boom! Down goes Antunes! Oh, he's in big trouble - I don't like his chances here as the referee's count reaches 5. 6,7,8,9...10! He's out! Pettis takes it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Anthony Pettis! Our winner, Anthony Pettis, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
