Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Ezequiel Bentley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Abe Newel! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Topper Green and Ron Honeybunn.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Newel throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Newel feints and as Bentley raises his hands in defense, Newel changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Bentley wants to sweep but no luck. Bentley really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Bentley trying to control the position.
Newel won't allow Bentley to get back to his feet. Newel slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Newel pushing down on Bentley's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Newel is figuring out what he wants to do next. Newel throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bentley has his hands clasped together around Newel's back. He's all about the action. Bentley is trying to stand up here but Newel is controlling him well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bentley is looking to control Newel's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bentley avoid being mounted? Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Newel in particular looking to stall. Bentley tries to kick Newel off but Newel keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Newel tries to pass to full mount but Bentley defends it. Newel content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bentley is trying to get back to full guard. Bentley is working hard here to advance position. Newel trying to control the pace.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Bentley gets caught flat footed, as Newel shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Newel content to stall in guard here. Bentley looking to hit a scissor sweep but Newel is one step ahead there. Bentley wants to get back to his feet but Newel is in a dominant position and won't allow it. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Newel slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Newel gets to his feet. Bentley looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Newel drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Newel throws an elbow but Bentley slips to the side and avoids it well. Newel moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Newel decides to take the fight back to the feet. Newel clinches. Newel is pushing Bentley up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Bentley is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Newel is keeping busy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Newel. Newel turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Newel manages to end up in side control. Newel stands up and beckons Bentley to his feet. Newel shoots in and bounces Bentley off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Bentley wants to get back to his feet but Newel is in a dominant position and won't allow it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Abe Newel dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Bentley rushes Newel and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Newel stops a takedown attempt from Bentley.
Newel jumps into guard, dragging Bentley to the mat.
Newel doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Newel wants to get back to his feet but Bentley is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Newel tries to land a sweep but no joy. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Newel throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Newel is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Bentley is fighting to break Newel's control of his arms but Newel is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bentley won't allow Newel to sweep him here.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Newel moves into the clinch. Newel throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Newel pulls guard. Bentley preventing the sweep. Bentley is fighting to break Newel's control of his arms but Newel is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Bentley in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bentley throwing strikes but missing. Newel controls Bentley momentarily but Bentley frees himself. Bentley works over Newel with some ground and pound from guard. Newel seems keen to control Bentley's posture.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Newel avoids a punch combination nicely.

Abe Newel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Newel looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Newel wants to pass the guard but Bentley is defending well. Newel is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Newel has control of Bentley's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Bentley regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Abe Newel has got the better of the ground game so far. Newel is breathing heavily. Bentley regains half guard. Newel prevents Bentley from improving his position. Bentley keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Still in half guard, Newel seems content to control. Newel seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bentley does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Bentley is looking to improve his position.
Newel looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Bentley is looking to get back to is feet but Newel passes into side control.
A lull in the action here. Bentley manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Newel wants to get back to full guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Bentley stalling. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Abe Newel showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Bentley's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Newel throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Bentley checks a low kick from Newel. Bentley misses with a two punch combination.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Bentley enables Newel to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bentley manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Newel slips nicely into half guard. Bentley striking from half guard on the bottom. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Newel missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Bentley wants to get back to his feet. Newel seems to be working for a kimura but Bentley defends the submission attempt. Bentley pushes Newel off but Newel dives into side control.
Newel stands up. Newel lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Bentley tries to keep at a distance but Newel has taken the fight into the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bentley wants a takedown.
Newel gets a trip takedown into half guard. Newel trying to control the action but Bentley is working from the bottom. Newel prevents Bentley from improving his position. Bentley punching from the bottom.
Bentley pushes Newel off looking to stand but Newel dives back in and keeps control.
Newel stalling. Bentley is looking to get back to full guard here but Newel has managed to pass to side control instead.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Newel decides to take the fight back to the feet. Newel has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Newel fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Bentley to the ground. Newel is now in Bentley's guard. Bentley preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Newel throws a big elbow that misses. Bentley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Newel is pushing down on Bentley's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bentley is fighting to maintain full guard but Newel has managed to sneak the leg through. Newel stalling. Bentley has a hand on Newel's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Newel takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Ezequiel Bentley has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Abe Newel is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Newel sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
And that's the end of the fight! Abe Newel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Newel has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
