PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Taran Chula (ranked 332 p4p, 43 weight class) and Hans Hermann Hoppe (ranked 316 p4p, 40 weight class). Hoppe is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Wind of Change. The key to victory for Taran Chula has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 12 - 1, fighting out of New York, Taran Chula!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hans Hermann Hoppe!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoppe swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Chula counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Chula throws a leg kick

and Hoppe counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Hoppe not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Hoppe thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Hoppe landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Hoppe is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Chula defends it well.
Hoppe stalling away here and it's allowed Chula to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Hoppe has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Hoppe trying to control the position from guard on top but Chula is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Hoppe fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hoppe does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

No luck for Hoppe with that takedown attempt.
Hoppe tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Chula paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Hoppe rushes Chula and presses him up against the cage.

Hoppe has Chula pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Hoppe pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Chula tumbling to the mat - Hoppe dives into Chula's guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Chula holds on and takes a little breather.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hoppe working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hoppe tries to free his leg and advance position but Chula is retaining full guard.

Chula misses with a looping right.
Chula seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Chula.
Chula sets himself, and Hoppe steps forward looking for the clinch! Chula avoids it this time.
Hoppe shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Chula but Chula pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Chula tries a low kick but Hoppe avoids it.
Hoppe tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Chula lands an overhand right.
Hoppe misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Chula.

and Hoppe counters with a nice double leg into side control. Chula won't be happy with that.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Hoppe is trying to get an arm triangle but Chula is defending well.
Hoppe tries to score with some ground and pound. Chula controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Hoppe throwing strikes but Chula manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Hoppe manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Hoppe is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Hoppe is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hans Hermann Hoppe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Hoppe in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Chula tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Hoppe!

Hans Hermann Hoppe was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
