Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dick Avery! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mattias Gellotte! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Eddie Farnsworth and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gellotte shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Avery manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gellotte is looking to stand up but Avery won't let him. Avery bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gellotte's guard.
Avery might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Gellotte striking off his back, scoring a few points. Gellotte pulls Avery in close to his closed guard and prevents Avery from doing any damage or advancing position. Avery thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Avery tries to free his leg and advance position but Gellotte is retaining full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gellotte wants to sweep here but Avery controlling him for the moment. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gellotte can do anything to dispel that myth. Avery is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Gellotte trying to keep a closed guard but Avery is proving a slippery customer.
Avery stopping the sweep attempt from Gellotte. Gellotte can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Avery controls the pace. Avery is in close to Gellotte's body, working some short punches and elbows. Gellotte trying to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Avery drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Avery jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Gellotte looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Avery passes into side control.
Avery slows the pace down. Gellotte wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Avery has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Gellotte's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Gellotte is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Avery!
