Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Trond Asmundsen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Antero Vuori!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Vladimir Khabensky and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vuori scores with a nice strike.
Vuori misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Vuori thows a leg kick but Asmundsen checks it

and Asmundsen decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Vuori's guard.
Asmundsen won't allow Vuori to sweep him here.
Asmundsen engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Vuori wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Asmundsen manages to pass to side control.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Asmundsen slips a nice elbow through Vuori's hands, connecting with Vuori's forehead.
Vuori wants to get back to his feet.

Vuori is defending against the submission attempts here by Asmundsen.
Asmundsen takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Asmundsen is nestled in close to Vuori, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Asmundsen working over Vuori with some ground and pound. Vuori looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Asmundsen lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Vuori is trying to get back to full guard.
Vuori is refusing to be controlled, as Asmundsen sits in half guard.
Vuori is trying to stand up here but Asmundsen is controlling him well.

Asmundsen looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Vuori is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Vuori pushes Asmundsen off but Asmundsen dives into side control.
Vuori wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Vuori is working to avoid the ground and pound but Asmundsen connects with a decent elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Asmundsen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vuori keeps working.
Vuori throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vuori can do anything to dispel that myth.
Asmundsen tries to move to mount but Vuori blocks the move with his legs.
Vuori is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Vuori is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Asmundsen has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Asmundsen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Asmundsen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vuori tries to improve position but can't.

Vuori tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Asmundsen lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Vuori down.

Asmundsen in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Vuori is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Trond Asmundsen!
