Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sam Jose! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Griggs Bigsby! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Daniel Cesar and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jose gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Bigsby counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Bigsby ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jose moves away. Jose misses with a takedown attempt and Jose takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Jose misses with a takedown attempt letting Bigsby counter with a right hand. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sam Jose. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bigsby displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jose. Jose gets a clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jose jumps guard but Bigsby turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Jose jumps guard but Bigsby stands there with Jose around his waist. Jose gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Bigsby lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bigsby gets through Jose's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Jose is trying to pull guard but Bigsby has him pressed against the cage. Jose blocks a body shot from Bigsby. Bigsby works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Bigsby lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Jose backwards. An uppercut to the body lands inside from Bigsby. Bigsby throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Bigsby taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
A short uppercut from Bigsby. Jose jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bigsby walks away with a smile on his face. Jose gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. A lazy body kick from Jose enabling Bigsby to counter with a crisp jab. Griggs Bigsby is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Jose is breathing heavily. Jose shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jab, jab by Bigsby - just one landing.
Jose is rocked! Bigsby plants his feet and throws a 3 punch combo. Miss, miss, boom! The third punch, a big right hook, connects right on the temple and drops Jose to the mat, unconscious! This fight is all over! Jose just couldn't keep out of the way of the whole flurry of punches!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Griggs Bigsby!
