Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rod Rivers (ranked 4958 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christov Yanovich (ranked 5167 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rod Rivers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Christov Yanovich!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Viktor Lagutenko and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Yanovich forces Rivers back against the cage and clinches.

Yanovich jumps guard and drags Rivers to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Yanovich wants to stand up but Rivers is controlling him.
Rivers postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rivers is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Yanovich preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Yanovich is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Rivers presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Yanovich gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.


It looks like Rod Rivers has been cut.
Yanovich lands an elbow inside.
Yanovich stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Rivers jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Yanovich walks away with a smile on his face. Rivers gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Yanovich lands an elbow just above Rivers 's eye.

Rivers is trying to drag Yanovich to the mat but Yanovich just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Yanovich jumps guard but Rivers turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

The referee is keeping an eye on Yanovich - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Yanovich controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Rivers had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Yanovich defends it easily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Yanovich passes Rivers's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Yanovich wants to take a breather but Rivers is having none of it.
Yanovich looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Yanovich stops Rivers from getting back to his feet.
Yanovich trying to control from half guard but Rivers is working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yanovich clinches.
Rivers is trying to break free.
Yanovich lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Yanovich lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Rivers tries to pull guard but Yanovich holds him up against the cage and eventually Rivers drops back down to his feet.

Yanovich breaks the clinch.
Yanovich tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rivers manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Yanovich tries to clinch but Rivers is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yanovich pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rivers lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Yanovich circles away quickly and effectively.
Yanovich tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rivers defends well and Yanovich ends up having to push Rivers into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Yanovich wants to clinch up but Rivers keeps it at a distance.
Rivers is looking to counter the offense by Yanovich and move into the clinch.

Rivers breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Rivers moves into the clinch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Yanovich.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Yanovich ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Yanovich no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Rivers postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Rivers cracks Yanovich with a solid left hand.
Yanovich is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rivers is controlling him.
Rivers content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Rivers is standing up over Yanovich. Yanovich looks to escape but Rivers dives into side control.

Rivers working the ground and pound.
Rivers will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Yanovich bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Rod Rivers is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rivers avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Rivers stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rivers wants it to stay on the feet.
Rivers is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Yanovich.

Yanovich tries to keep at a distance but Rivers has taken the fight into the clinch.

Rivers closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Yanovich has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rivers stands up and waves to Yanovich to follow him.
Rivers avoids the head kick by Yanovich.
Yanovich changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rivers tries to avoid it but Yanovich manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rivers to the ground. Rivers escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Yanovich tries to clinch there but Rivers circles away.

Yanovich feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Rivers is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Yanovich defends well.

Christov Yanovich showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Yanovich tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Rivers is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
A nice right hand lands inside from Yanovich.
Rivers stalling in the clinch but Yanovich improves position.
Rivers dodges an elbow strike from Yanovich.
Yanovich lands an elbow inside that Rivers shrugs off.

Rivers gets control of Yanovich's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rivers will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Yanovich throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Rivers jumps guard but Yanovich stands there with Rivers around his waist. Rivers gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Yanovich. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Yanovich tries to close the distance and clinch but Rivers swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Yanovich has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Rivers uses from the top position.
