Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil Coleman (ranked 296 p4p, 43 weight class) and Paulo Guedes (ranked 475 p4p, 75 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Paulo Guedes! The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Santiago Holmes and Peter Branson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Guedes wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Guedes looks to score with a jab to the body but Coleman is just out of range. Coleman drops down looking for a counter takedown but Guedes sprawls and moves away. Coleman moves out of range as Guedes strikes. Guedes scores with a jab to the jaw. Guedes waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Coleman. Coleman drops down looking for a counter takedown but Guedes sprawls and moves away. Guedes slips under a jab. Guedes appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. Coleman bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Coleman fails with an attempt to clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A slow jab from Coleman misses its intended target. Coleman moves away from the strike by Guedes. Guedes gets caught flat footed, as Coleman shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Guedes wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Coleman manages to pass to side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Coleman lands with a punch from half guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Guedes can do anything to dispel that myth. Coleman scoring with strikes to the body and head. Coleman with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Coleman is nestled in close to Guedes, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Coleman takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Coleman scoring with strikes to the body and head. Guedes wants to get back to his feet. That's two minutes gone in the round. Coleman scores with a big shot! Guedes's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Guedes! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Phil Coleman! Phil Coleman retains his light heavyweight title! After the fight, Phil Coleman was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
