Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Roy McDavid (ranked 432 p4p, 52 weight class) and Jason Stackhouse (ranked 1578 p4p, 194 weight class). Stackhouse comes into a darkened arena with his song building. True Blood kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Jason Stackhouse told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Stackhouse !
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Konstantin Menshow and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDavid lands the left hand.
A punch combination from Stackhouse misses.

McDavid fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Stackhouse sprawls well initially but McDavid persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
McDavid is looking to advance position but Stackhouse won't allow it.
McDavid is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

McDavid has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

McDavid is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Stackhouse is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

McDavid swings around for an armbar but Stackhouse sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into McDavid's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now McDavid is on top in guard.


McDavid drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Stackhouse manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now McDavid has Stackhouse in his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McDavid looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Stackhouse has picked McDavid up and slammed him! McDavid can't keep hold of the triangle and Stackhouse manages to pass to side control!

McDavid is trying to work for a sweep but Stackhouse has mounted him!

Stackhouse wants to stand up but McDavid is controlling the position.

We've been informed that Stackhouse has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Stackhouse wants to get up but he can't break McDavid's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That was a close round but I would say that Roy McDavid will probably get the nod.

McDavid goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Stackhouse has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for McDavid but great work by Stackhouse .

McDavid is working to get back to half guard.
McDavid sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Stackhouse in particular looking to stall.

Jason Stackhouse showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Stackhouse might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Stackhouse must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

McDavid stalks Stackhouse and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Stackhouse 's face. Stackhouse staggers backwards, shaken.
McDavid bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Stackhouse 's head backwards.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

McDavid tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McDavid has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

McDavid is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Stackhouse knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

I would just about give that final round to Jason Stackhouse .
