Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Calebe Benedito! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Riggybongo Di Castillo! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Winston Alpacca and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A nice combination there by Benedito.
Nice shot lands for Benedito. Benedito closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Di Castillo quickly recovers to half guard. Di Castillo slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Benedito preventing the sweep. Di Castillo keeps trying to improve his position. Di Castillo pulls Benedito in close to his closed guard and prevents Benedito from doing any damage or advancing position. Let's hope that Di Castillo has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Di Castillo keeping moving, preventing Benedito from controlling successfully. Di Castillo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Benedito accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Di Castillo looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Di Castillo throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Di Castillo managing to control the position. Benedito stopping the sweep attempt from Di Castillo. Benedito wants to get up but he can't break Di Castillo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Di Castillo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Benedito defends well. Benedito trying to control the position from guard on top but Di Castillo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Benedito with a flurry of punches that miss. Di Castillo wants to sweep here but Benedito controlling him for the moment. Benedito drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Benedito jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Di Castillo has Benedito pulled in close to control his posture.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Di Castillo clinches. Di Castillo has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Benedito regains guard immediately. Di Castillo is working Benedito over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Benedito has his feet on Di Castillo's thighs here. He's pushed Di Castillo off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Di Castillo screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
