PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Damir Stojnic (ranked 7520 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaname Wakamatsu (ranked 4891 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Damir Stojnic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kaname Wakamatsu!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Bruno Lombardi and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wakamatsu throws a head kick but Stojnic moves out of range.
Stojnic is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Wakamatsu.

Stojnic drives through with a takedown into Wakamatsu's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wakamatsu will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Our spies down at at Big Price MMA inform us that Wakamatsu has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Wakamatsu pushes Stojnic off looking to stand but Stojnic dives back in and keeps control.
Stojnic is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Stojnic looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Wakamatsu with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Stojnic is keen to just control but Wakamatsu is a slippery customer.
Wakamatsu wants to get back to full guard but Stojnic has passed into side control.
Wakamatsu pushes Stojnic away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Stojnic gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Stojnic stands up and beckons Wakamatsu to his feet.

Wakamatsu shoots in and bounces Stojnic off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Stojnic pushes Wakamatsu off and scrambles back to his feet.

Stojnic drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Wakamatsu tries to buck Stojnic off but Stojnic is having none of it.
Stojnic wants to control but Wakamatsu is keeping him busy.

Stojnic in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Wakamatsu seems a little lost for a moment, as Stojnic dominates the positioning.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Stojnic stands up and beckons Wakamatsu to his feet.
Stojnic throws a sloppy head kick and Wakamatsu moves out of range easily.

so Stojnic counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Stojnic closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Wakamatsu tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Wakamatsu is in all sorts of trouble here.

Wakamatsu shoots for a double leg takedown but Stojnic sprawls well. He's pushed Wakamatsu's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Wakamatsu pushes Stojnic off looking to stand but Stojnic dives back in and keeps control.

Stojnic is looking for a kimura but Wakamatsu is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Stojnic to get the leverage.
Wakamatsu is looking to get back to full guard here but Stojnic has managed to pass to side control instead.
Wakamatsu is not content to let Stojnic control the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Stojnic tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Stojnic is putting a hurting on Wakamatsu here, landing some big shots from side control.

Wakamatsu is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Stojnic gets his way!

Wakamatsu fails to land with a series of punches.
Stojnic tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wakamatsu sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Stojnic somewhat.
Kaname Wakamatsu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wakamatsu gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Stojnic to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Stojnic postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stojnic has closed the distance and engaged Wakamatsu in a clinch.
Wakamatsu takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Stojnic wants a takedown but no success here.

Wakamatsu has had enough of the clinch but Stojnic keeps him there for the moment.

Stojnic breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Stojnic shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Stojnic shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Wakamatsu is trying to defend but Stojnic finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Stojnic has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Wakamatsu is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Stojnic is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Stojnic has escaped and now he's on top!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Damir Stojnic is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Wakamatsu is working an open guard so Stojnic takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Stojnic, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
