PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Frank Irrozios (ranked 2547 p4p, 125 weight class) and Mustafa Wagdy (ranked 4641 p4p, 205 weight class). Irrozios comes to the cage accompanied by L'Algérino - Hasni. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Frank Irrozios!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Mustafa Wagdy!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Hirohito Nitta and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Irrozios misses with a wild combination.

Wagdy fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Irrozios to the ground. Wagdy is now in Irrozios's guard.
Wagdy passes Irrozios's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Irrozios pushes Wagdy off looking to stand but Wagdy dives back in and keeps control.
Wagdy wants to free his trapped foot but Irrozios is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Irrozios is trying to stand back up but Wagdy is controlling him
Irrozios trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Wagdy is looking for a kimura but Irrozios is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Wagdy to get the leverage.

Irrozios manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Wagdy keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Irrozios prevents the takedown attempt.

Irrozios manages to break the clinch.
Irrozios lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Irrozios throws a right and a left that Wagdy avoids nicely.
Wagdy feints the counter takedown.

Wagdy fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Irrozios sprawls well initially but Wagdy persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Irrozios is squirming around, avoiding Wagdy's attempts to control the action.

Wagdy is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Irrozios can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Wagdy is working for a guillotine from mount but Irrozios frees his head quite easily.
Wagdy wants to control the pace but Irrozios is squirming around nicely.
Irrozios looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Wagdy jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Irrozios is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Irrozios and Wagdy has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Wagdy thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Wagdy prevents Irrozios from escaping the position.
Wagdy moves into full mount!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Wagdy is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Irrozios has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Irrozios squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Wagdy is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Irrozios to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Irrozios shrugs it off.
Wagdy won't let Irrozios get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Irrozios is squirming around, avoiding Wagdy's attempts to control the action.
Irrozios's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mustafa Wagdy dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



A momentary lapse in concentration from Irrozios enables Wagdy to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Irrozios manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Irrozios has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Wagdy is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Irrozios's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Irrozios lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Wagdy backs up against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Irrozios throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Wagdy changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Irrozios is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Wagdy.

Irrozios gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Wagdy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Irrozios swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Irrozios wants to get back to his feet but Wagdy is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Irrozios pushes Wagdy off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Irrozios swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Wagdy drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Irrozios defends it well.

Wagdy shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Irrozios napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Mustafa Wagdy has got the better of the ground game so far.

Irrozios sneaks out the side door and pushes Wagdy away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Wagdy shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Irrozios scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Wagdy manages to mount him!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wagdy won't let Irrozios get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wagdy wants to control the pace but Irrozios is squirming around nicely.

Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Irrozios throws Wagdy to one side and escapes!
Irrozios jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Frank Irrozios is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Wagdy takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Irrozios listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.


Wagdy is rocked!
Irrozios knocks out Wagdy with a massive right hand! The ref tackles Irrozios before he can follow up with any more strikes and that's it everyone. Irrozios picks up the big W with a huge KO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Frank Irrozios!
