PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Robin Van Der Hoorn (ranked 3319 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damir Stojnic (ranked 4391 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robin Van Der Hoorn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Damir Stojnic!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Lou da Vinci and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Der Hoorn tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Stojnic was well out of range. Poor timing from Van Der Hoorn.
Stojnic tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Van Der Hoorn defends well and Stojnic ends up having to push Van Der Hoorn into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Stojnic shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Van Der Hoorn eats them both and turns towards Stojnic to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Stojnic.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Stojnic.
Van Der Hoorn seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Van Der Hoorn shoots in for a takedown but Stojnic shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Van Der Hoorn.
Despite the aggression on Stojnic's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stojnic has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Van Der Hoorn after a bit of a struggle.
Stojnic is trying to drag Van Der Hoorn to the mat but Van Der Hoorn just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Van Der Hoorn unloads a knee to the mid-section. Stojnic lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Van Der Hoorn is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Van Der Hoorn knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stojnic on the ground.
Stojnic trying to control but Van Der Hoorn is working from the bottom.
Van Der Hoorn will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Van Der Hoorn throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Stojnic escapes and throws Van Der Hoorn's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Stojnic is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Van Der Hoorn knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
You can see the frustration on Van Der Hoorn's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Van Der Hoorn tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Van Der Hoorn is not content to let Stojnic control the position.

Stojnic is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Van Der Hoorn is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Stojnic tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Van Der Hoorn wants to control but Stojnic postures up.
Van Der Hoorn manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Van Der Hoorn is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Stojnic trying to control but Van Der Hoorn postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Robin Van Der Hoorn will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Stojnic jumps guard but Van Der Hoorn stands there with Stojnic around his waist. Stojnic gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Van Der Hoorn is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Stojnic presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Stojnic is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Van Der Hoorn will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Robin Van Der Hoorn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Van Der Hoorn is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Van Der Hoorn looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That was a close second round but I would say that Robin Van Der Hoorn will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Van Der Hoorn gets caught napping as Stojnic dives in and scores a takedown. Van Der Hoorn manages to retain guard.
Van Der Hoorn is looking to stand back up but Stojnic counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Van Der Hoorn.


Stojnic looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Van Der Hoorn has his hands clasped together around Stojnic's back. He's all about the action.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Van Der Hoorn keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Van Der Hoorn is refusing to be controlled, as Stojnic sits in half guard.
Van Der Hoorn wants to improve his position but Stojnic is controlling well.
Stojnic seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Van Der Hoorn does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Van Der Hoorn is positioning himself well to prevent Stojnic advancing to mount.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Stojnic is looking to take a break and control but Van Der Hoorn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Van Der Hoorn has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Stojnic is on him like a limpet, forcing Van Der Hoorn back against the cage.
Van Der Hoorn really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Van Der Hoorn's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Stojnic fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Stojnic looks for the body kick but Van Der Hoorn saw that one coming.

Stojnic pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Stojnic lands a jab-cross combination.
Damir Stojnic has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Robin Van Der Hoorn is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Stojnic misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Damir Stojnic.
I think Van Der Hoorn has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
