Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Wong (ranked 6934 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miguel Cunha (ranked 24289 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Derrick Wong has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Derrick Wong seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Derrick Wong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Miguel Cunha!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Leandro Rodrigues and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cunha shoots in and gets a takedown into Wong's guard.
Cunha content to stall in guard here.
Wong wants to hit a switch here but Cunha passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Wong there!

Cunha looking for a guillotine from mount but Wong is having none of it.
Cunha sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Wong wants to hold on but Cunha pushes him away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cunha thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Cunha has eaten all the pies!

Cunha is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Wong can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Wong is looking to get to half guard.
Cunha looking to ground and pound but Wong is blocking nicely.

Wong covering up well under a barage of strikes.

Cunha is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Cunha avoids the attempt from Wong to control.
Wong keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Cunha controlling the pace for now.
Cunha looking to control but Wong is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wong wants to control but Cunha is having none of it.

Wong is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Wong wants to hold on but Cunha pushes him away.
Wong tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Wong wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Cunha has good solid back control here.
Cunha has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Cunha looking to break Wong's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Wong remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Cunha will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Cunha wants to control but Wong is keeping busy.
Wong is trying to get back to his feet but Cunha has full control of the position and if anything, Wong has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Wong just trying to survive but Cunha is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Wong is really stuck here.
Cunha really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Wong.

Wong is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Cunha throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Wong was covering up waiting for the punch and Cunha finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Cunha stands up from Wong's guard - Cunha perhaps looking for a knockout.

Cunha drives through and clinches with Wong against the cage.
Cunha blocks a body shot from Wong.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cunha stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Cunha is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Wong can't fight it off and eventually Cunha manages to take the fight to the floor. Wong looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wong is on top in guard.

Wong tries to stand but Cunha is controlling from the bottom.

Cunha's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wong throws a strike but Cunha rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Wong preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Cunha throws an elbow that misses. Wong uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cunha's guard. Nice move by Wong!


Cunha has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Wong has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Cunha manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Wong is looking to stand up but Cunha won't let him.

Cunha is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Wong is aware though and is defending well.
Miguel Cunha has got the better of the ground game so far.
Cunha is trying to keep Wong in close.

Cunha wants to sweep here but Wong controlling him for the moment.
Cunha has his hands on Wong's head, controlling the position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Cunha has an active guard here but Wong has managed to pass into half guard.

Wong would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cunha looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Miguel Cunha showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Cunha has closed the distance and engaged Wong in a clinch.
Wong has had enough of the clinch but Cunha keeps him there for the moment.

Cunha gets control of Wong's arms and successfully pulls guard. Cunha will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Wong wants to break free but Cunha has control.
The referee is keeping an eye on Wong - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Cunha has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Wong regains guard immediately.

Cunha stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wong swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Wong is trying to improve his position.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Wong is not content to let Cunha control the position.
Cunha works to advance to full mount. Wong defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cunha can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wong is looking to escape.
Wong has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Cunha's lack of action.
Wong throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Cunha in particular looking to stall.
Wong trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Cunha manages to pass to mount!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wong is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.

Miguel Cunha comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cunha has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
