PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Maeda (ranked 1170 p4p, 141 weight class) and Chief Bull (ranked 3320 p4p, 355 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Maeda might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Submission. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas Maeda! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chief Bull! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shirou Masuda and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bull shoots in but Maeda avoids the takedown attempt easily. Bull tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Maeda defends well and Bull ends up having to push Maeda into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch. Maeda digs a good hook to Bull's body.
Maeda stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Maeda wants it to stay on the feet. Thomas Maeda has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chief Bull. Bull will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Maeda lands with a hook. Bull tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Bull swings widly with a right hand
and Maeda counters with a straight right hand. Bull on the wrong end of a nice jab. Maeda fails with the takedown. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Bull! But no joy. Bull drives through with a takedown into Maeda's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Bull won't allow Maeda to sweep him here. Bull throwing strikes but missing. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Maeda pushes a forearm under Bull's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Bull is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Thomas Maeda!
